Mi è capitato di leggere un articolo molto interessante su The Cryptonomist, (Rif.) che parla di un argomento di cui si sente parlare sempre più spesso: il Web4.
Fino a poco tempo fa l'attenzione era tutta rivolta al Web3, ma oggi si inizia già a discutere della prossima evoluzione di Internet.
L'articolo spiega con chiarezza la differenza tra i vari Web.
Il Web1 era il web delle origini: pagine statiche dove la maggior parte degli utenti poteva soltanto leggere le informazioni pubblicate.
Con il Web2 sono arrivati i social network, gli smartphone e le app. Internet è diventato molto più interattivo e tutti hanno iniziato a creare e condividere contenuti.
Allo stesso tempo, però, gran parte dei nostri dati è finita nelle mani delle grandi aziende tecnologiche.
Poi, è arrivato il Web3, legato al mondo della blockchain. L'idea è quella di un web più decentralizzato, dove gli utenti possiedono direttamente i propri asset digitali e hanno un maggiore controllo sui propri dati grazie a wallet, smart contract e applicazioni decentralizzate.
Secondo l'articolo, però, il Web3 non ha sostituito il Web2. Oggi convivono entrambi: continuiamo a usare social network e servizi tradizionali, mentre la blockchain offre nuove possibilità in vari ambiti.
E il Web4?
Il Web4 viene descritto come un internet in cui l'intelligenza artificiale avrà un ruolo centrale.
Non si tratterà soltanto di chatbot in grado di rispondere alle domande, ma di veri e propri assistenti intelligenti capaci di anticipare alcune esigenze, automatizzare attività e collaborare con noi in modo sempre più naturale.
Molte di queste tecnologie sono ancora in fase di sviluppo, ma negli ultimi anni abbiamo già iniziato a vedere i primi esempi di questa evoluzione.
Secondo me, anche il Web4 non sostituirà completamente il Web3.
Anzi le due tecnologie potrebbero integrarsi.
La blockchain può garantire proprietà, trasparenza e decentralizzazione e l'intelligenza artificiale può rendere i servizi più efficienti e semplici da utilizzare.
Mi chiedo se un giorno riusciremo davvero ad abbandonare il Web2 oppure se, più semplicemente, verrà migliorato e integrato con Web3 e Web4.
Oppure potrebbero diventare tre livelli dello stesso Internet che continueranno a convivere ognuno con un ruolo diverso.
Una cosa è certa: ci saranno anche nuove sfide, soprattutto per quanto riguarda privacy, sicurezza e controllo dei dati.
Il cambiamento che stiamo vivendo mi ricorda molto quello tra il 2005 e il 2010, quando arrivarono smartphone e social network.
All'epoca pochi immaginavano quanto avrebbero cambiato la nostra vita quotidiana. A me sembra che oggi l'AI stia seguendo una traiettoria simile.
La differenza è che questa volta il cambiamento potrebbe essere ancora più rapido, perché l'intelligenza artificiale accelera lo sviluppo della tecnologia stessa.
Da appassionata di blockchain, spero che questa evoluzione non faccia passare in secondo piano il valore della decentralizzazione.
L'intelligenza artificiale può renderci più efficienti, ma la blockchain può aiutarci a mantenere il controllo dei nostri dati e delle nostre risorse digitali.
Comunque, è ancora presto per sapere come sarà davvero il Web4, ma una cosa ormai è chiara: Internet continua a evolversi molto più velocemente di quanto immaginiamo.

Many of these technologies are still under development, but in recent years we have already started to see the first examples of this evolution.
In my opinion, Web4 will not completely replace Web3 either. Instead, the two technologies are likely to complement each other.
Blockchain can provide ownership, transparency, and decentralization, while artificial intelligence can make services more efficient and easier to use.
I wonder whether one day we will truly move beyond Web2 or whether, more simply, it will be improved and integrated with Web3 and Web4.
Perhaps they will become three layers of the same Internet, continuing to coexist, each with its own role.
One thing is certain: new challenges will also arise, especially regarding privacy, security, and data ownership.
The changes we are experiencing today remind me a lot of the period between 2005 and 2010, when smartphones and social networks first emerged.
Back then, very few people imagined how much they would transform our daily lives. To me, AI seems to be following a very similar path today.
The difference is that this time the transformation could happen even faster, because artificial intelligence is accelerating the development of technology itself.
As a blockchain enthusiast, I hope this evolution will not overshadow the value of decentralization.
Artificial intelligence can certainly make us more efficient, but blockchain can help us maintain control over our data and our digital assets.
In any case, it is still too early to know what Web4 will ultimately look like. One thing is already clear, though: the Internet continues to evolve much faster than we imagine.
