ABC, CMA warn over false claims of US action on Cambodian banks
The Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) Thursday warned the public against false social media claims alleging the United States action against Cambodian banks, saying the fabricated claims could erode confidence in the financial system.
According to a joint press release, the circulating content suggested that certain local banks had their cash holdings frozen by US authorities. The associations said such claims are entirely false and have caused unnecessary public confusion and concern.
ABC and CMA stressed that the dissemination of fabricated information targeting licensed financial institutions is irresponsible and harmful. They warned that such content is intended to undermine public confidence in Cambodia’s banking and financial sector.
The two associations expressed support for the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) in its swift clarification of the issue, noting that timely communication is essential to contain misinformation, reduce confusion and maintain trust in the financial system.
They further emphasised that deliberate creation or sharing of false information related to financial institutions is a serious matter. It may trigger unwarranted alarm among customers, disrupt normal market conditions and negatively affect overall sector stability.
ABC and CMA also backed NBC and law enforcement authorities in tracking down individuals responsible for spreading such content. They pledged continued cooperation with regulators and member institutions to strengthen communication, ensure market order and uphold confidence in Cambodia’s financial system.

សមាគមធនាគារនៅកម្ពុជា (ABC) និងសមាគមមីក្រូហិរញ្ញវត្ថុកម្ពុជា (CMA) កាលពីថ្ងៃព្រហស្បតិ៍ បានព្រមានសាធារណជនអំពីការអះអាងមិនពិតនៅលើបណ្តាញសង្គមដែលចោទប្រកាន់ពីសកម្មភាពរបស់សហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកប្រឆាំងនឹងធនាគារកម្ពុជា ដោយនិយាយថា ការអះអាងប្រឌិតទាំងនេះអាចធ្វើឱ្យប៉ះពាល់ដល់ទំនុកចិត្តលើប្រព័ន្ធហិរញ្ញវត្ថុ។
យោងតាមសេចក្តីប្រកាសព័ត៌មានរួមគ្នា ខ្លឹមសារដែលចរាចរបានបង្ហាញថា ធនាគារក្នុងស្រុកមួយចំនួនត្រូវបានអាជ្ញាធរអាមេរិកបង្កកសាច់ប្រាក់របស់ពួកគេ។ សមាគមទាំងនោះបាននិយាយថា ការអះអាងបែបនេះគឺមិនពិតទាំងស្រុង ហើយបានបង្កឱ្យមានការភាន់ច្រឡំ និងការព្រួយបារម្ភជាសាធារណៈដែលមិនចាំបាច់។
