A tragic love story between Nate and Ellie. Ellie was Nate’s tutor back in high school. They fell in love and were each other’s person until Nate cheated. 8 years later, Nate was introduced as Katie’s (Ellie’s sister) fiancé. Nate loves Katie, but not the way he’s in love with Ellie. Before the wedding, Nate insisted Ellie to flight to Brazil to get Katie's wedding dress with him - a chance for him to clear up their misunderstanding from years ago.
It was the first book I cried for in 2026. I read it in January and still cannot move on from this story. Songs that constantly played in my head after finishing this book are: “See you later (ten years)” by Jenna Raine and “Constellation” by Jade LeMac. I am waiting for the second book >.<
Some lines from the book:
“I need you to understand something. You come first. Always. If we were on a sinking ship and there was only one life jacket? it’d be yours. If we were starving and a bird fell right out of the damned sky? It’d be yours. If nothing stood between you and danger? i would fill that spot and walk toward that danger with a smile on my face. I will do everything in my power to never leave you, but if there is ever a choice that has to be made? I’ll choose you. Every. Single. Time.”
”I’m in love with her. Endlessly. Eternally. I have never been more sure about anything in my life. I will love this girl until I take my very last breath. When that time comes, I will leave this earth with a smile on my face because I got to love her, because she let me love her. I can’t imagine a better ending than that.”
”Look at me, baby, I would choose this time with you, no matter, how short it is, over an entire lifetime without you. Every single, time. Because now I get to leave this world knowing what it feels like to be loved by you. I promise you…I’m one lucky bastard.”
”If you can’t stay for you…stay for me.”
