SOU Socheat, Delegate of the Royal Government in change as Director General of SERC in the opening ceremony.

This workshop aimed to continuously raise awareness of Cambodia’s securities sector among provincial university professors and lecturers, helping them gain a comprehensive understanding of the current securities sector and its equity (stock) and debt (bond) trading, enabling them to share these insights with their students. Additionally, the event highlighted investment opportunities for potential investors seeking to generate passive income and participate more broadly in the Cambodian securities market.

In this Workshop, H.E. Sou Socheat emphasized that “The securities sector development can not rely exclusively on building market infrastructure or regulatory frameworks, it shall begin with knowledge building, fostering an investment culture, and developing human resources. Universities and lecturers serve as the driving force in training youth to become the investors, researchers, and leaders who will impower sustainable and inclusive growth in the securities market”.

H.E. Hong Sok Hour also stated that “Effective investment requires more than acquiring knowledge from books but it requires financial literacy, an understanding of investment psychology, and practical experience gained through investing at an appropriate level. These elements enable investors to better understand the securities market and build greater confidence in making investment decisions. H.E. also encouraged investors to embrace the principle of diversification, deepen their understanding of the potential of the securities market, and make responsible, knowledge-based investment decisions. Such practices can help investors better protect themselves against fraudulent activities, while strengthening investor confidence, supporting the sustainable development of Cambodia’s securities market and the national economy growth”.

The workshop brought together 100 participants in Siem Reap, drawing academic staff from 14 regional universities and technical institutes across Siem Reap, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Kampong Thom, alongside local investors.
