Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on citizens to adopt a positive outlook on their culture and to collaborate in efforts to strengthen, preserve, and promote Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage. The premier emphasized the importance of a constructive mindset during a meeting on Saturday with 4,742 Cambodian Red Cross Youth volunteers at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
"Why is it crucial to maintain a positive attitude?" the prime minister asked, explaining that one's mindset can significantly impact the outcome of any endeavor. “In the past, there has been concern over cultural issues, with fears that we were being taken advantage of. But how we choose to respond to these concerns is what truly matters,” he stressed.
PM Hun Manet elaborated by offering two possible reactions to such challenges. “A negative response involves doing nothing but complaining, blaming others for exploiting us, and criticizing ourselves for our inability to help. However, if we truly love our culture and want to promote it, dwelling on negativity will not take us far,” he explained.
The premier encouraged a more optimistic approach, urging citizens to recognize the positive contributions others make. “For example, during the New Year, instead of worrying about what others intend, we can look at their efforts, improve upon them, and work together to reinforce our cultural heritage. That is the essence of positive thinking.”
Hun Manet further emphasized that if Cambodians wish to compete on the global stage, they should not waste time attacking or criticizing others. Instead, they should focus on self-improvement. “This kind of positive mindset will drive us to take meaningful and constructive actions,” he said.
In addressing cultural issues specifically, the prime minister urged the public to avoid fixating on the idea that others are stealing from Cambodia’s cultural identity. Instead, he encouraged the nation to more actively promote its own films, art, and other cultural expressions.
He concluded by assuring the public that, as Cambodia's leader, his priority is not to respond to criticism or attacks but to focus on actions that genuinely benefit the country and its people. Hun Manet’s message was one of resilience and forward thinking, encouraging all Cambodians to look beyond negativity and work together toward a brighter cultural future.
