Cambodia and China Strengthen Cultural and Economic Bonds at ‘Hello Beijing’ Event

On February 22, 2025, Cambodia and China co-hosted a cultural exchange event and exhibition titled *"Hello Beijing"* at Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport. The event showcased a photo exhibition and a Beijing cuisine-tasting session, aiming to strengthen cultural ties and foster deeper bilateral cooperation.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including Yin Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee; Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia; Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia; and Prak Sophorn, Governor of Siem Reap Province, alongside senior leaders and delegations from both nations.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Wang emphasized the steady growth of Cambodia-China relations in recent years, crediting strong leadership and diplomatic collaboration. He noted that the visit of the CPC Central Committee delegation represents a historic step in deepening political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

NBC Governor Serey echoed these sentiments, highlighting the centuries-old diplomatic ties between Cambodia and China, which have grown stronger over the past three decades. She acknowledged China’s pivotal role in Cambodia’s development, particularly through infrastructure projects supported by grants and concessional loans.

Serey also underscored major joint initiatives under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), including the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Motorway, the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, and the planned Phnom Penh-Bavet and Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet motorways. She emphasized that these projects will enhance national economic connectivity and drive Cambodia’s infrastructure development.

Yin Li expressed his delight in visiting Cambodia, particularly Siem Reap, a province renowned for its rich cultural heritage and tourism appeal. He highlighted Siem Reap’s importance as a key economic hub, attracting international visitors and significantly contributing to Cambodia’s economy.

To further strengthen cooperation, both nations explored ways to boost tourism, particularly by increasing direct flights from China to Siem Reap. Yin Li reaffirmed China’s commitment to encouraging more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia, thereby supporting the local economy and deepening bilateral ties.
